⚙️ Core Working Principle
The workflow of a pick and place machine can be summarized in several automated steps:
Programming & Loading: The operator imports the component coordinate file (generated from PCB design software) into the machine, and mounts the feeders containing components onto the machine. There are several types of feeders, the most common being tape-and-reel, tube, and tray feeders.
Picking & Inspection: The machine’s vacuum nozzles precisely pick up components from the feeders. Then, the built-in vision system takes images to verify that the components are correct, check for positional offsets, and perform alignment calibration.
Precise Placement: The robotic arm moves the components at high speed to the designated coordinates on the PCB and accurately places them onto the pre-applied solder paste.
Subsequent Soldering: After all components are placed, the PCB moves into a reflow oven, where heating melts the solder paste, permanently fixing the components onto the board.
